ISBN Numbers

The Publishing Consortium, LLC, was created to share the high startup costs for small presses and publishers. By combining the needs for a group, we can leverage our numbers to get better deals. ISBNs, for example, cost $125.00 each, but together we can bring the costs down substantially. Single ISBNs, which include a UPC image, cost $7.00 each. Most new titles require at least four ISBNs for the different versions (Print, Kindle, ePub, iTunes), so a block of four ISBNs for a single title drops the cost down to $5.00 each.

Some printers, such as Lulu.com, offer inexpensive ISBNs. Anyone who looks up the title in the Books in Print database will see the ISBN was issued to Lulu.com. Which looks more professional — a book put out by Lulu.com, or a book from your press with an ISBN assigned to The Publishing Consortium, LLC, where anyone can see your press is a legitimate entity and small business? Bookstores who do not carry Lulu.com or Createspace.com books will not have the same bias against an organization made up of professional small presses.

Advertising

Each member will have a dedicated page on our website that describes what makes your small press unique. Contact information, ownership information, and a full listing of works is standard. This will help boost your search engine page rankings. Additionally, we will post your press releases here.

Members can place advertisments on our website, with links provided by you. If, for example, you would like to use links to Amazon that include your affiliate codes, or you would like to forward links to your company store, we can accomodate you. Membership advertising for your small press includes a no-limit 468×60 banner ad in normal rotation. Each new title published by a member press will have the cover image placed in a 125×125 randomly-rotating block on the side panel of each page.

If your new title or author has a dedicated Facebook page, we will place your new works in our ongoing Facebook advertising campaign.

Future membership benefits may include:

  • We are working on building up a network of bloggers to review new titles.
  • Cross-advertising on other websites.
  • Google ads.
  • Bing ads.
